Dyplast Exhibiting at CAMX 2018

Join Us at Booth BB51
___________________________________________________________________
Dyplast is excited about the upcoming CAMX Conference (Composites and Advanced Materials Expo) in Dallas where we will be exhibiting October 16-18. Our polyisocyanurate and polystyrene composite rigid foams are increasingly recognized as superior to alternative composite substrates such as balsa and honeycomb designs - - and lower cost in many cases. Dyplast’s high capacity production and quick turn-around on high-strength light-weight rigid foam sheets can add significant value to demanding composite applications - - including those with large dimensions and precision tolerances. To showcase our ability to customize rigid foams for unique projects we will be displaying a Texas Long Horn, the State of Texas, an Oil pump, and a bucking bronco. We’ll have a drawing at the end of the auction for companies interested in displaying these items in their offices.

We invite you to visit Dyplast’s booth and speak with our experts in composite applications.

Dyplast Products Releases - QWIK GUIDE: GeoFoam (Geo-Technical EPS)

Dyplast Products recently issued another a one-page Qwik Guide on Dyplast® EPS GeoFoam. What is Geofoam? It is a large expanded polystyrene (EPS) rigid foam block, typically used as a light-weight/high-strength structural replacement for soil in geo-technical projects as shown in our case study entitled GeoFoam Project: Sharpes Ferry Bridge or as structural alternatives in applications such as stadium seating and swimming pool foundations in Florida's high-rise hotels and residences.  Dyplast GeoFoam is approximately 1% of the weight of most sandy and/or average moisture soils, and is particularly advantageous in applications where proper soil alternatives.

This Qwik Guide can be found on our web-site www.dyplast.com under the resources drop down.

Re-Launch: Dyplast CEO pens "Open Letter to the Mechanical Insulation Industry"

Dyplast sent out a media announcement yesterday and a minor “units error” in our attachment was identified by our friends. Dyplast herein restates its message (now with an updated attachment)  that Recently Dyplast was made aware of several marketing documents from Pittsburgh Corning comparing FOAMGLAS® to PIR/PUR systems. These include "Truth in Performance", "Polyisocyanurate Foam versus FOAMGLAS Insulation", and "FOAMGLAS Response to Dyplast Customer Bulletin dated 6/2010". These marketing pieces are misleading and contain numerous false statements. While Dyplast will not waste your time going through every misrepresentation, this letter will address key areas in order to let you decide if there is any reason to give credit to the Pittsburgh Corning claims. Additionally, Dyplast will outline key facts about Dyplast ISO-C1® products because real data and actual infield performance are a better basis to evaluate products.

Dyplast Reopens after Hurricane Irma

Dyplast and our employees very much appreciate the thoughts and prayers so many of you offered to us and indeed all in the path of Hurricane IRMA. All of our personnel are safe although a number still do not have electricity and water.

The Miami plant sustained minimal damage, and we appreciated the efforts that our staff made to be at the plant this morning. They came in spite of personal hardships.

Dyplast anticipates being operational on or before Friday September 15, 2017. We still have spotty telephone service at the site.

We further anticipate that we will be back to normal operations next week fulfilling all orders. If you had already placed orders before Dyplast suspended operations these shipments will have priority.

Thank you for your patience. Please contact your Account Manager if you cannot get through to Customer Service, and you can always contact me directly via my cell.

Dyplast's latest Customer Bulletin, 0717 - ISO-C1® Polyisocyanurate Insulation Flame Spread and Smoke Development

Dyplast's latest Customer Bulletin, 0717 - ISO-C1® Polyisocyanurate Insulation Flame Spread and Smoke Development, is another in a series of white papers aimed at providing our clients, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and friends with objective information on competitive products and on items that affect our industry.
Marketing literature for insulation products on the internet and in printed media often address the flame spread index (FSI) and smoke developed index (SDI) as measured in accordance with ASTM E84 or comparable standards. This updated (0909) Customer Bulletin provides factual, clarifying information concerning ISO-C1's FSI and SDI as well as other important points relating to the combustion properties of polyisocyanurate foam.

On May 30, 2017 Dyplast sent to our readership another related document, the reprint of the American Chemistry Council's Center for the Polyurethanes Industry, Question and Answer: Smoke Toxicity document. The document contains two sections, General Information on Smoke Toxicity followed by a section with Information Specific to Polyurethane Products.

Click the link below for more information.
For the past 8 years Dyplast has dedicated time and resources to producing Technical and Customer Bulletins in order to provide customers and potential customers information regarding a variety of timely topics that impact the insulation industry. The complete list can be accessed at...

Dyplast new Article, “Commercial Quality Control: The Missing Link”, in LNG Industry Magazine

Dyplast Products has published its latest article in LNG Magazine titled “Commercial Quality Control: The Missing Link”. In an era with disparate pricing, a multiplicity of owners/stakeholders, long-term price volatility, multiple concurrent plant constructions, a shortage of skilled personnel, and increasingly complex technologies, owners/stakeholders in LNG projects increasingly face new risks.

This article introduces commercial quality control as an approach to move more impact factors to the controllable side of the ledger, and also as a way of better identifying and mitigating risks across the project lifecycle – beginning at project inception, but encompassing development, financing, construction and operations.

Ted TALK #3: “Due Diligence!”

Ted TALK: “Due Diligence!”

Dyplast’s ongoing survey of below-ambient insulation applications indicates that over 65% of projects fail to exercise reasonable due diligence that would have otherwise resulted in lower capital costs while achieving higher thermal efficiencies.

I’ve spoken on this before, particularly at Conferences, on Panels, and within Industry Magazines. Due diligence expresses the care that a reasonable person exercises to research, analyze, and prepare for a transaction, process, or strategy.

My many esteemed colleagues will echo my personal astonishment regarding how many insulants are selected without the supplier even demonstrating compliance with applicable Codes and Standards such as ASTM, CINI, etc. - - measured by an independent third party - - not by an in-house lab, and not a product formulation different from the product delivered. And since insulants are meant to insulate over the long term, due diligence is also intended to ensure the life-cycle balance of cost versus performance is achieved.

It is increasingly incumbent on engineers, specifiers, asset owners, and stakeholders to be diligent regarding the facts, the relevance of the facts, and full disclosure of facts. A life-cycle costing of the insulation system is also warranted in the majority of applications.

Ted TALK #2: “Honest Talk”

Ted TALK: "Honest Talk"

Okay, yes, a rather direct statement - - yet more-so a promise from Dyplast to customers and others in the industry. You’re receiving this message either because we’ve either worked together in the past, may work together in the future, or you have somehow followed us. In my first Ted TALK I jumped into the fray with the “Mechanical Insulation Value Chain” blog assuming you knew me and understood the context. The responses were positive but I wanted to step back and explain where I was coming from.

Dyplast is entrenched in Mechanical (pipe/equipment) Insulation and Panel Insulation, indeed mostly for temperatures less than ambient, yet we’re also innovative in Composite and Core Foams. Within those product/market contexts, you can expect to hear honest comments about issues and trends that affect us.  To the extent that you disagree with me, I welcome your input. In this highly technical and complex industry, I have heard that you feel many suppliers misrepresent or do-not-disclose the real story which is why I will be offering you my honest opinion to help inform you.

In my next Ted TALK I’ll get back to meat-and-potatoes issues.

Approaching the Holiday season, everyone at Dyplast extends to you our best wishes!

Respectfully
Ted Berglund

Dyplast publishes new article, "Logical Thinking" in LNG Industry Magazine

Dyplast Products’ new article in LNG Industry Magazine titled "Logical Thinking" is an examination of the complexities surrounding insulant performance at cryogenic temperatures.

Physical properties of a particular insulant are often measured only at ambient temperatures. This article aims to use logical thinking to examine the performance of insulants at LNG (cryogenic) temperatures.

Fortunately, standards such as ASTM and CINI increasingly require physical properties to be measured at cryogenic temperatures, so that in the future such logical extrapolations may be less necessary.
